Police responded to reports of an active shooter Saturday at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago.
An active shooter situation took place on Saturday at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago, leaving one police officer dead and another critically injured.
Police and SWAT teams were dispatched to the hospital on Saturday morning. According to WGN-TV, sources said the incident took place when officers were transporting a prisoner either to or from the hospital.
Alderman Andre Vasquez posted on social media that the "active situation" developed at around 11:30 am at Swedish Hospital and the 2600 block of W Winona, where multiple shots were fired and two officers were shot.
Per NBC Chicago, law enforcement confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody around noon after a manhunt took place. The injured officer was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
"Thank you to CPD for the quick response and swift action. Sending my thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery for the officers injured," said Alderman Gilbert Villegas in a post on X. "This is a horrible situation all around. Hoping the staff and those present at Swedish Covenant Hospital are also okay."
