Hunter Biden has agreed to give a deposition before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability in a public hearing. This comes after he was issued a subpoena to appear before the committee as it digs into questions of influence peddling in the Biden family and into President Joe Biden's relationship to his son's shady foreign business ventures.

His attorney, Abbe Lowell, sent a letter to Chairman James Comer, saying "Mr. Chairman, we take you up on your offer. Accordingly, our client will get right to it by agreeing to answer any pertinent and relevant question you or your colleagues might have, but—rather than subscribing to your cloaked, one-sided process—he will appear at a public Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing," The Messenger reports.

"The House Oversight Committee has followed the money and built a record of evidence revealing how Joe Biden knew, was involved, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes. Now, the House Oversight Committee is going to bring in members of the Biden family and their associates to question them on this record of evidence," Comer said at the time of the subpoena.

Lowell was defensive, saying "Unlike members of the Trump family, Hunter is a private person who has never worked in any family business nor ever served in the White House or in any public office," Lowell wrote. "Notwithstanding this stark difference, you have manipulated Hunter’s legitimate business dealings and his times of terrible addiction into a politically motivated basis for hearings to accuse his father of some wrongdoing."

"From all the individuals you have requested depositions or interviews, all you will learn is that your accusations are baseless," she said. "However, the American people should see that for themselves."

Comer issued subpoenas in September for bank records from Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden. "From day one of our investigation of Joe Biden’s abuse of public office, we’ve followed the money and that continues with today’s subpoenas for Hunter and James Biden’s bank records. Bank records don’t lie, and coupled with witness testimony, they reveal that Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain. The financial records obtained to date reveal a pattern where the Bidens sold access to Joe Biden around the world to enrich the Biden family," Comer said.

"As the Bidens were sealing deals around the world, Joe Biden showed up, met with, talked with, shook hands with, and had meetings with the foreign nationals sending money to his family. This culture of corruption demands further investigation. The Oversight Committee, as well as the Committees on the Judiciary and Ways and Means, will continue to follow the money to determine whether President Biden’s involvement in his family’s corrupt business schemes makes him compromised and threatens our national security. We will continue to provide the answers, transparency, and accountability that the American people demand and deserve," Comer said at the time.

This came after, as House Oversight reports, they "obtained access to the suspicious activity reports generated by the Biden family and their associates’ foreign or high-dollars transactions." Through that investigation, the committee "identified over 20 shell companies and uncovered how the Bidens and their associates raked in over $24 million dollars from 2014-2019 by selling Joe Biden as 'the brand' around the world. As the Bidens received millions from foreign nationals and companies in China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan, Joe Biden dined with his family’s foreign associates, spoke to them by speakerphone, had coffee, and attended a meeting."
