"That's something the Department of Justice is looking at right now."

Vice President JD Vance has said that the Department of Justice is investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar over potential immigration fraud.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, the Daily Caller's Reagan Reese asked Vance if he anticipates "an indictment against her" for immigration fraud.

Vance replied, "You read the things about Ilhan Omar and about who she married and whether she didn't marry this person or that person. It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody's entitled to equal justice under the laws. So we're going to investigate it. We're going to take a look at it. If we think that there's a crime, we're going to prosecute that crime, and that's something the Department of Justice is looking at right now."

The comments from Vance came when he was filling in for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Around a month ago, Vance appeared on Benny Johnson’s podcast where he made similar comments about Omar’s immigration status.

"Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America. She has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters at the center of the Somali community," he said at the time.

Omar has been at odds with the Trump administration over allegations that she married her brother in order to gain citizenship in the country. At the time, Omar responded to Vance's comments saying,  "This is a ridiculous lie and desperate attempt to distract from the pedophile protection party’s unpopular war of choice, increasing gas prices, and rapidly dropping polling numbers."
