Julie Payette, the Governor General of Canada, will resign after a workplace report revealed her office to be a toxic workplace. Instead of being fired by Trudeau, Payette chose to leave on her own terms, the Toronto Sun reports.

In September, Trudeau told media that he would not be firing Payette after allegations emerged that she had been bullying staff.

Payette was also under tremendous scrutiny this past summer. Criticism reached a fever pitch after the CBC reported that she had spent nearly $250,000 so that she could have privacy at Rideau Hall, one of her two official residences.

Payette faced allegations from RCMP officers who said the Governor General harassed them along with "other troubling behaviour."

Gov. Gen Julie Payette was also criticized for wasting taxpayer dollars after she used her government jet for pick-ups and drop-offs at the Mirabel, Quebec cargo airport on the way to her cottage.

There is no word on who will be replacing Payette.
