Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser said that he heard from a reporter that there had been an ISIS flag hanging from a pole on the back of the EV pickup truck that was used by a now-deceased driver to plow into a New Year's Eve crowd killing 10 and sending dozens to local hospitals. Two police officers were injured in a gunfight after the driver of the vehicle crashed, then got out and began firing.

Speaking to local news, Nungesser said "I had a national press person as he was getting on a plane heading to New Orleans tell me, ask me if I could confirm if there was an ISIS flag on the back of the truck. And that's what he heard, I do not know that for a fact, but that was told by a reporter that was boarding a plane from New York to come to New Orleans to cover this story just about 45 minutes ago. But I don't want to start a rumor, that was just what he heard, and he asked me to confirm that, which I could not do."

The Daily Mail reported that a "mystery" was unfolding "after a hidden object was spotted on the back of the SUV." A flagpole appeared there in some photos with a gray jacket hanging from it. Earlier reports and a video show that a black flag appeared to be hanging from that spot.

Police located an IED at the scene of the "mass casualty event" and at 8:30 am the FBI blew it up in place. The FBI stated that they were investigating the massacre as a terrorist attack and this information was relayed to the White House.

Video from the horror shows people running in all directions and then ducking when the gunshots are fired.
