BREAKING: Legendary actor Tim Curry dead at 80

Tim Curry, the legendary actor known for his roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s It, has died.

Sources told TMZ that Curry died late Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home following serious health issues that had affected him for more than a decade. Law enforcement sources said police responded to his home at 11:23 pm Tuesday and that foul play is not suspected, according to TMZ.

Curry became a major figure in film and theater after getting his start in Hollywood in the late 1960s. His breakthrough came with his portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a role that made him an enduring cult icon.

The movie was initially overlooked by critics but later became a major part of the midnight-movie tradition, developing a devoted following that has lasted for decades.

Curry also terrified audiences as Pennywise the clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It. He appeared as Mr. Hector in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and had roles in Annie, Clue, The Hunt for Red October, Muppet Treasure Island, Addams Family Reunion and Scary Movie 2.

His career also included extensive theater work. Curry received three Tony Award nominations and an Emmy nomination over a career spanning five decades. His health had significantly affected his ability to work in recent years. Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012 and underwent brain surgery following the medical emergency.
