The Liberal MP who called the prime minister's pandemic response "divisive" and accused it of having become "politicized" has resigned from his position as the chair of the Quebec caucus for the Liberal Party.
Joel Lightbound, who on Tuesday held a press conference where he called for a review of vaccine mandates, passports, and travel bans, made the announcement via Twitter, just hours after the explosive conference.

"Following my press conference this morning, I have decided to resign as chair of the Quebec caucus. I will be very happy to support my successor in the continuation of our work," he tweeted in French.
Lightbound was fairly critical of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at several points in the press conference, saying: "It's time we stopped dividing people, pitting people against each other. The tone and policies of my government have changed since [the election], now the approach stigmatizes and divides people."
Lightbound added that he is not the only person uncomfortable with the Trudeau Liberals' handling of the situation, and even went so far as to say that his government was using health mandates and restrictions to "wedge and stigmatize" those who were not submitting to mandates.
Lightbound said during the conference that he was "ready to accept the consequences" that will come from speaking out.
The prime minister responded to Lighthouse's press conference on Tuesday, saying that while he understood that people were frustrated, that mandates were necessary to avoid "future restrictions."
