On Wednesday, the Capitol Police arrested a man who attempted to enter the Capitol Visitor Center with a machete and three knives.
Police said that at around 2 pm, officers spotted a machete in a man’s bag as it was going through the x-ray machine at the visitor center’s north doors. Officers stopped the X-ray machine, arrested the man, and secured the weapon. Also found in the bag were three knives.
While officers investigated, security screening at the north side of the visitor center was temporarily stopped. The man was arrested for multiple counts of carrying a dangerous weapon.
