Secret Service arrested a man that jumped over a barrier near the White House complex on Thursday. He was confronted by security before getting taken into custody.

A Secret Service officer suffered a minor injury in the altercation. The suspect in question had jumped over a construction barrier near the Treasury building and was then confronted at the pedestrian gate where the altercation took place. The suspect as well as the officer were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said of the situation, "Shortly after 11:30 a.m., a man was quickly detained by uniformed U.S. Secret Service police officers after jumping over a construction bollard near the Treasury Building on the northeast side of the complex."

"Officers encountered the individual near a pedestrian gate, where he engaged in a physical altercation before being taken into custody. One officer sustained a laceration. Both the officer and the suspect underwent medical evaluation for non-life-threatening injuries," he added, per Newsweek

The incident comas as construction is taking place on the White House grounds for a new ballroom in the East Wing of the building. Although the intent of the man was not immediately known, President Donald Trump has faced other threats as well as attempts on his life over the past couple years.

Trump was shot while at a rally in Butler, Pennsylania by Thomas Matthew Crooks while on the campaign trail. Just a few months afterwards, Ryan Routh also tried to take the president's life while he was at his golf course in Florida.
