Ethan's mother Jennifer Crumbley, 45, and his father, James Crumbley, 47, were convicted of manslaughter.
The parents of school shooter in Michigan Ethan Crumbley have been jailed after being convicted of manslaughter.
Ethan is serving life in prison for murder after he killed four students at Oxford High School in Michigan in November 2021. Ethan was 15 at the time.
Ethan's mother Jennifer Crumbley, 45, and his father, James Crumbley, 47, are now both going to prison for manslaughter. The gun had been given to Ethan as a gift from his parents.
Each of Ethan's parents are serving 10-15 years for the charges, according to Sky News. The case has broad implications for gun-related crimes and the second amendment.
Crumbley’s mother expressed her “deepest sorrows” before the court and said that she did not know her son would be capable of such an act.
"My husband and I used to say we have the perfect kid. I truly believed that," she said. "I didn't have a reason to do anything different. This is not something I foresaw."
Addressing the court, James Crumbley spoke and said, "I am sorry for your loss as a result of what my son did. My heart pours out to every single one of you."
Prosecutors have argued that the parents bear responsibility for their child's actions because they gave him a gun and did not see signs of violence.
The parents had been summoned before to school when teachers discovered he had written messages such as “blood everywhere” and “the thoughts won’t stop – help me” in his schoolwork and were told he needed counseling.

[The parents had been summoned before to school when teachers discovered he had written messages such as “blood everywhere” and “the thoughts won’t stop – help me” in his schoolwork and were told he needed counseling.] [Crumbley’s mother expressed her “deepest sorrows” ... and said that she did not know her son would be capable of such an act.] That takes a special kind of stupid. Good thing they got a couple of stupid parents off the streets too.
