At least four people have been injured in Brooklyn after a U-Haul truck reportedly struck pedestrians at multiple locations near 5th Avenue and the Bay Ridge Parkway on Monday.
Local ABC News reports, "It's believed the chain of events started when the driver fled from an attempted car stop at Bay Ridge and 5th Avenue, according to police."
One man in his 30s was transported to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition after being hit near 4th Avenues. At another location, the U-Haul drove onto the sidewalk. Three men who were on mopeds also received minor injuries.
The driver then fled northbound on the Gowanus Expressway and was surrounded by police in Red Hook.
The driver has been taken into custody and the U-Haul was being searched for possible explosives. Fox News reports the bomb squad was on the scene.
According to the New York Post, the incident happened around 11 am.
On Twitter, Justin Brannan wrote, "A man driving a U-Haul went on a rampage in Bay Ridge. He was just apprehended in Sunset Park. Several people were hit and badly injured. We have no idea of motives at this time but this wasn't an accident. Thank you to @NYPD72Pct @NYPD68Pct. I will share more info when I can."Join and support independent free thinkers!
