Three provinces in Canada have now paused or are set to pause rolling out the AstraZeneca vaccine due to safety concerns, with two more provinces expecting similar directives in the coming days.

MB and CQ have already announced on Monday that they are pausing rollouts of the vaccine to people under 55 years of age.

According to Global News, the announcement from the AB government hasn't happened yet, but an anonymous government source confirmed that it will be forthcoming.

Another anonymous source of authority also confirmed that later on Monday, new guidelines will be issued by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommending the same, that the AstraZeneca vaccine be temporarily paused for people inter 55 years of age.

"Appointments at pharmacies for AstraZeneca vaccine for those 18-29 are on hold pending anticipated further information from Health Canada and NACI," read an email that was made available to the press.

At issue is an apparent risk factor for developing a serious blood clot in the few weeks following receiving the vaccine.

Health Canada has already issued a warning regarding the vaccine's safety, specifically mentioning the blood clot issue.

"We are implementing this change effective immediately, A rare but very serious side effect has been seen in young women, primarily in Europe," commented Joss Remier, the head of the MB Vaccine Task Force.

The vaccine has also been suspended in many European nations for the same reason.
