BREAKING: Police arrest armed man near US Capitol

Officers of the US Capitol Police apprehended a man with a gun near the Capitol on Tuesday afternoon.

A statement posted by the US Capitol Police posted on X Tuesday afternoon said that there is currently no threat, and that more details on the event will follow soon. 



The agency noted that it would be searching the suspect's belongings "Out of an abundance of caution."

Videos shared on X showed a heavy police presence during the arrest.



Capitol Police reported that the officers had spotted the suspect walking around with a "long fun" at the park beside Delaware Avenue NE in front of Union Station, according to WRC-TV

The man was commanded to drop the weapon and then tased after not complying, according to police.

A police officer said the man had "an AR-15," per the report.
