A Capitol Hill police officer has died after he was attacked by a knife-wielding man who rammed his car into two officers. He was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his wounds. The suspect is also dead. Another officer is still in hospital in critical condition.
According to Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman, Noah Green exited his vehicle with a knife. After disobeying verbal orders, he lunged at the officers, at which point the officers fatally shot the suspect. Green is not known to Capitol Police.
Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee stated that they are working closely with Capitol Police, and that the Homicide, and Internal Affairs Division are taking over the investigation. According to Contee, the attack "does not appear to be terrorism related", and that no specific member of congress was targeted.
It was stressed by both Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police that the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be given as they become available. Search warrants are in the works, as detectives try and find a possible motive.
President Biden has been informed, and is expected to release a paper statement in the next hour.
