Former President Donald Trump was the favorite among the GOP contenders for president in a straw poll at TPUSA's AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona. Trump took 82.6 percent of the vote. Tucker Carlson won top pick for US Vice President, taking 35 percent of the vote.
A total of 1,113 attendees of Turning Point Action's 2024 America Fest event were surveyed in the poll, with interviews being conducted online via an email invite from Dec. 17 to 18, 2023.
Coming in a distant second to Trump was Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 7.6 percent. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy took 5.88 percent, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley garnered 1.1 percent while former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was at 0.1 percent. 2.5 percent were undecided and 0.3 percent preferred someone else.
The candidates who came behind Tucker Carlson for VP were Vivek Ramaswamy at 25.7 percent, Ron DeSantis at 6 percent, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 4.9 percent, and Nikki Haley at 2.4 percent.
Other notable takeaways include that a plurality of surveyed voters believe Joe Biden will not be the Democrat nominee for president. Just 30.2 percent of voters indicated they do believe it will happen, while a far higher 47.4 percent indicated he would not be the party's candidate of choice.
An overwhelming majority of respondents said that Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel should step down from her role, at 87.2 percent. Only 2.8 percent were opposed to having McDaniel leave, with 10.1 percent reporting they are unsure or have no opinion.
A majority of respondents additionally indicated they would be more likely to donate to the RNC if McDaniel left the position at 56.3 percent. Only 1.1 percent said it would make them less likely, and 42.6 percent reported it would have no impact on their donation decisions.
