The Proud Boys fought with Antifa militants in a mid-day downtown brawl to take back the Multnomah County Justice Center in Portland.
The "No To Marxism" rally and counter-protest congregated shortly after noon. Both sides used their slogan-pasted homemade wooden shields to deflect and attack. Pepper spray was unleashed several times, pipes were swung, and tasers were reportedly used. Antifa was filmed burning an American flag to ashes on the ground.
In one particular face-off, what it appears to be a transgender individual grabbed a Blue Lives Matter advocate and is then directly maced in the face.
"USA!" chants erupted in dissonance over "No Justice! No Peace!" shouts. A flurry of Thin Blue Line, Trump 2020, and American flags clashed with the colours of communism. A separate group of Back the Blue supporters appeared to oppose anti-police activists who gathered around a white van graffitied in "All Cops Are Bastards" sayings. The same vehicle had its tires popped and windows smashed in.
The same vandals attempted to twist the ACAB mantra into "All Cops Are Brave."
A series of scuffles broke out randomly over a couple of hours. Black Lives Matter agents reportedly launched various projectiles at the right-wing crowd, who fired off non-lethal munition in return.
A "member of the media" with "PRESS" painted on their helmet walked by, swinging their bleeding hand that was reportedly smashed by Blue Lives Matter.
Amid the chaos, a peace mitigator and patriot—identified as Tiny Toeses by Villian Phoenix's live stream on YouTube—spoke in an interview explaining why conservatives have appeared.
"The way we address this country is people learning how to disagree without disrespect," Toeses stated.
"We need to take as stand for what's right," he continued, adding that his group attended to "stand peacefully" and "not to shut down" the opposition.
However, if these agitators instigate violence against the public, he moved on, then his group will take a stand for the people.
Then Antifa advanced towards a line of Troops for Trump on the retreat and then backed a handful of Proud Boys into a nearby parking garage.
A loudspeaker repeatedly warned all present to stop participating in criminal behaviour or a riot would be declared and a dispersal order delivered.
Portland Police Bureau posted a similar message on Twitter, stating that all perpetrators are subject to the use of force, including crowd control agents and impact weapons.
Protestors disbanded to the south and west of the Justice Center. The Department of Homeland Security reportedly arrived to escort pro-police supporters away from the scene. Then PPB announced an unlawful assembly.
DHS agents were pushed and shot by pepper balls as they marched in line wielding batons.
Federal officers lined the edge of the neighbouring park and then pulled back. Antifa and BLM rioters pelted them again.
The remaining black bloc crowd cheered as DHS retreated, pushing the agents into the Justice Center doors.
City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty tweeted last night that her office was aware of the planned alt-right presence today. In a thread, she denounced their organizing and recruiting in Portland while shielding BLM protestors.
"Portland, our office has received information and is monitoring the rally being organized by alt right and white nationalist agitators this Saturday at the Justice Center," Hardesty wrote. "We vehemently denounce any white nationalist organizing and recruiting in our City."
"Portlanders deserve to exercise their first amendment rights without being attacked in broad daylight by white nationalists," she tweeted.
