On Saturday, two deputies of Salt Lake County UT were involved in a gunfight  in the parking lot of the local jail that left the suspect dead and both of them with gunshot wounds to the head.

The incident occurred at the Salt Lake Country Metro jail, and the deputies, according to official sources, were part of a "campus security team". No further information is available about them as of this writing.

According to Fox News, both of the wounded deputies were rushed to the nearest hospital. One was hit squarely in the eye with a bullet and continues to be in critical condition. The other deputy is in stable condition at this time.

Rosie Rivera, the Sheriff of Salt Lake County, said in a statement:

"The environment for law enforcement right now is extremely dangerous, and we know that."

"These types of incidents are really devastating for the department. We hope and we pray that our deputies will be OK."

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
