The alert stated "Run. Hide. Fight."
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga went into lockdown on Thursday afternoon after an alert was sent out reporting a possible active shooter.
The alert stated, per WSMV, "Run. Hide. Fight." The university reported the possible active shooter as being at the University Center or the school’s library. The Chattanooga Police Department said they are working with campus police to investigate reports of shots fired. All City of Chattanooga buildings went into lockdown along with campus buildings.
The Chattanooga Police Department announced just before 2 pm that the lockdowns at city buildings as well as on campus had been lifted. "The UTC campus is ALL CLEAR. The lockdown has been lifted. Law enforcement found no evidence of a threat."
Rep Chuck Fleishmann wrote after the all clear was given, "God bless the Chattanooga Police Department for their swift, professional, and overwhelming response to today's lockdown at UTC."
The university said that all classes have been canceled for the day, and students and non-essential employees could leave campus for the day. This is a breaking story. Please refresh the page for updates.
