On Tuesday, the Supreme Court allowed Title 42 border restrictions to remain in place, for now, putting on hold the removal of the policy which was set to end this week.

According to NBC News, the court ruled 5-4 in favor of an emergency request by Republican attorneys general from 19 states who sought to intervene in defense of the Trump-era policy.

The policy, brought about during the pandemic, allows for asylum seekers to be quickly expelled at the border due to the ongoing public health emergency.

The decision puts on hold a ruling made by US District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who called the CDC’s implementation of the policy "arbitrary and capricious."

Many have feared that the removal of Title 42, as the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border continues to climb to record numbers, were to be removed, there would be an additional surge of illegal immigrants, adding to strain already felt by Border Patrol agents and towns along the southern border.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
