Authorities today apprehended the main suspect who is alleged to have shot fourteen people and killed one man in the entertainment district of downtown Austin, Texas, back on June 12th.
According to KXXV, a 19-year-old named De’Ondre Jermirris White is currently in Killeen City Jail. He tried to evade arrest by cutting his hair and dying it.
However investigators compiled enough evidence from witness statements, security camera footage, and ballistic evidence to narrow it down to solely De’Ondre White. Earlier on Thursday the US Marshals, alongside the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the SWAT team of Killeen, Texas, were able to apprehend him.
“We are glad to work with dedicated professionals that are committed to keeping our communities safe regardless of boundaries. This case covered multiple jurisdictions, and together we were able to locate and take into custody a violent fugitive,” said Killeen Police Chief Charles Kimble.
In the aftermath of the attack, at least one local Texas outlet refused to broadcast the suspect’s description on the grounds it could’ve been “harmful in perpetuating stereotypes.”
The arrest of De’Ondre White comes two days after charges were dropped against two unnamed teenagers, per KXAN.
Although in that case the pair knew Mr. White, “There is not sufficient evidence that either of these gentlemen fired a shot,” per Travis County District Attorney José Garza.
