Republican South Carolina Sen Tim Scott is reportedly planning to run for president in 2024, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal.

Jennifer DeCasper, a Scott senior adviser, told the outlet he was "excited to share his vision of hope and opportunity and hear the American people’s response."

Scott is reportedly testing a message with Republican voters in key early states focused on optimism and unity, as some say that it's time for the party to move on from former President Donald Trump, who announced his bid for president shortly after the midterm elections.

Sources close to Scott acknowledge though that it currently isn’t clear whether Republican voters that had embraced Trump are ready to hear that message.

Scott has selected former Senator Cory Gardener and former head of the National Republican Senate Committee Rob Collins as co-chairs of a new super PAC.

The Senator is set to speak on Thursday at a county GOP dinner in South Carolina celebrating Black History Month, following when fellow GOP South Carolinian Nikki Haley is expected to announce her bid. He is also set to speak later this month in Iowa, the first state in the Republican nominating process.

Sources told the Wall Street Journal that Scott is set to travel extensively in the coming months.

People close to Scott said that a challenge would be getting his name recognition up in a race that is expected to draw several big-name Republicans, including Trump and Haley.

"He truly believes that God is great and America is great and we are provided with incredible opportunities. So I think a Ronald Reagan ‘Morning in America’ hopeful America vision is one that Tim has, lives and breathes and is really needed in our country," said Sen. John Barrasso, GOP Senate conference chair.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
