President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw will take place at Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center in December.

"The World Cup draw will set up the group stage of competition. 48 teams will play in 104 games across 16 North American cities, from Seattle to Vancouver to Atlanta to Miami. It’s gonna be so exciting for our country," he said. The draw will take place on December 5.

"This will be one of the greatest events," he continued, adding that it's like "having many Super Bowls in a short period of time, because each one of these games essentially is a Super Bowl, some of them are bigger than Super Bowls, actually."

"The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest, most complex set of events in sports history, and the Kennedy Center will give it a phenomenal kickoff and will be involved. And they’ll be working over there for quite a bit of time. We have it all set that they can stay there for the big events, the big press conferences and everything else."

Trump said that FIFA is projecting a total of 6 million fans will attend World Cup events in person, and 6 billion more will be watching online or on TV. "This will drive more than $30 billion into the US economy and create 185,000 American jobs in a short period of time."
