BREAKING: UMass running back Marvins Antoine, 18, stabbed to death in Rhode Island Wendy's parking lot

Marvins Antoine, an 18-year-old freshman running back for UMass Dartmouth, was stabbed to death early Saturday morning in a Wendy's parking lot in Rhode Island.

Antoine was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital following the stabbing. Another UMass Dartmouth freshman, Kensley Macean, was also stabbed and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to CBS News, Antoine and other team players were at the Mezzo Lounge on Charles Street in Rhode Island on Friday night. The players were together hours after losing a game at home. Police said that there was an "altercation" at the nightclub at some point in the night that moved to a Wendy's parking lot.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez gave a news conference on Saturday afternoon where he said that another UMass Dartmouth student was arrested on campus in connection with the murder. The student, 19-year-old Chukuwnonose Uzoma Eze, is being held by campus police so he can be brought to Rhode Island for the murder charge. Eze is not a player on the team, and police are still investigating the circumstances of the stabbing, including what led up to the altercation.

"There was an altercation between a female and some of the victims that were in line," Perez said. "And then the altercation moved over to the parking lot of the Wendy's but we have no indication that they knew each other." 

Additionally, Perez said that Flock cameras were used to identify the car Eze used to flee the scene.

“Our hearts and prayers are very much with Marvins’ family, friends, classmates, and teammates as we mourn his loss together,” said UMass Dartmouth chancellor Mark A. Fuller in a statement. “We also send our prayers and best wishes for Kensley’s recovery, and hope that he will be able to resume his education here soon.”
