The officials in the United States and Qatar have agreed to block Iran from accessing the $6 billion in assets unfrozen by the Biden administration during a prisoner swap with Iran last month.

Two sources familiar with the private remarks told the Washington Post that Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo told House Democrats on Thursday on the action, which comes as Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists have continued attacking Israel.

Three anonymous House Democrat aides said Adeyemo told House Democrats the money "isn’t going anywhere anytime soon."

Iran’s mission to the United Nations told the outlet, "The senators in question and the U.S. government are all acutely aware that they can NOT renege on the agreement. The money rightfully belongs to the people of Iran, earmarked for the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to facilitate the acquisition of all essential and non-sanctioned requisites for the Iranians."

During Thursday’s White House press briefing, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council John Kirby said "none of that money has been accessed," adding that the $6 billion is "still sitting in a Qatari bank. All of it, every dime of it."

The $6 billion was released in early September had been frozen through US sanctions and had been kept in an account in South Korea.

The prisoner swap was hosted in Doha, Qatar, with the host nation agreeing to monitor how Iran spends the billions of dollars.

The funds were set to be used on humanitarian assistance, but Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said in an interview "This money belongs to the Iranian people, the Iranian government, so the Islamic Republic of Iran will decide what to do with this money."

Reports revealed that Iran had been helping Hamas plan the attack on Israel since August, with the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps giving the final go-ahead last week.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
