X is slated to display what country accounts are based out of as well as other details in an effort to reduce inauthentic engagement on the social media platform. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

Nikita Bier, the head of product at X, said in a post, "When you read content on X, you should be able to verify its authenticity. This is critical to getting a pulse on important issues happening in the world. As part of that, we're experimenting with displaying new information on profiles, including which country an account is based, among other details. Starting next week, we will surface this on a handful of profiles of X team members to get feedback."

The post also displayed, aside from country, the date someone joined X, the amount of username changes, and where the account is connected. Bier said earlier this week that the platform has also cleared out 1.7 million bots.

"This week we purged 1.7 million bots engaging in reply spam. You should start noticing improvements in the coming days. We will be focusing on DM spam next," Bier posted.

X owner Elon Musk also talked about improvements in the feed of X, and that Grok as well as other AI tools have been updating algorithm changes. Someone posted about the improved feed, and Musk replied, saying, “To the degree that people are seeing improvements in their feed, it is not due to the actions of specific individuals changing heuristics, but rather increasing use of Grok and other AI tools.”

“We will post the updated algorithm, including model weights, later this week. You will see that a lot of random vestigial rules are now gone. Going to full AI recommendations, where all 100M+ posts per day are evaluated by Grok and those most likely to interest you are recommended happens next month. This will profoundly improve the quality of your feed. Shortly after that, we will build the ability for you to dynamically adjust your recommended content, eg ‘show me less politics’.”
