After President Joe Biden called a Fox News reporter a "stupid son of a b*tch" on a hit mic on Monday afternoon, CNN's Brian Stelter shared a message on Twitter about how Fox News would likely run with the story, "turning it into a thing when it should really be a blip."
Back when Trump used the phrase in 2018, Stelter said it "expose[d] journalists to threats and intimidation," and was an "anti-media attack."
During the Trump era, Stelter found that president's salty tongue to be much more than a mere "blip," saying that "It was wrong when Trump was just a candidate," and that once he became president and used the phrase, it was "even worse."
"It was wrong when Trump was just a candidate," Stelter wrote, "and it's even worse now that he's the president. These jabs expose journalists to threats and intimidation."
He went on to call the use of the phrase by Trump an "anti-media attack." But when Biden says it, it's no big deal, per the CNN anchor.
Stelter didn't even mention concerns over "threats or intimidation" when Biden uttered the phrase against a journalist on Monday, and he didn't seem to think it was an "anti-media attack." Instead, he simply noted the occurrence of the incident, transcribing the reporter's question about inflation, and the President's response.
Trump spoke at a rally in 2018 and remarked that Chuck Todd of Meet the Press was a "son of a b*tch." It was this that Stelter took issue with.
It wasn’t just Stelter with a double standard on display. "Today the President called American citizens who express their political views sons of b*tches," Chris Hayes lamented about Trump in September 2017. When Biden did the same to Peter Doocy on Monday night, the MSNBC host laughed it off.
Joe Biden promised during the 2020 presidential election that there’d be "no bullying of the media from the press room podium or by tweet."
Speaking to Bret Baier show, Peter Doocy reacted to Biden's comment by saying that he didn’t even hear Biden’s remark at the time it was made. He was only made aware of it after the fact.
