CAIR to give Rep. Ilhan Omar an award after ongoing feud with Rep. Lauren Boebert

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is hosting a Facebook live virtual event and honoring Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar as the "American Muslim Public Servant of 2021."

Other attendees include Democrat Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, Rep. Andre Carson of Indiana, and activist Linda Sarsour.

In the press release announcing the event, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad says the following:

"Representative Omar has time and again proven her deep dedication to public service. Her work representing the interests not only of her constituents but of the American people as a whole serves as an example to our community and to the nation. Representative Omar has shown tremendous courage in the face of constant attacks from anti-Muslim bigots both inside and outside of Congress, but she has not let the hatred of bigots stop her from serving the American people."

Awad then goes on to say "anti-Muslim bigots" have come after Omar without mentioning the recent feud between herself and Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert. CAIR’s invite says people should show up to their virtual gala to show support for Omar against Islamophobia.

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene earlier today highlighted the death threats she receives. The video goes on for nearly ten minutes as she plays her voicemails.

CAIR then brings up a story about a Washington mosque being targeted with an explosive device. However they don’t provide any evidence that it was motivated by political leaders like Boebert, despite their previous hinted indication as much, anyway.

Last week, Rep. Boebert tried apologizing on social media to the Muslim community for comments previously made about Ilhan Omar.

However, the follow-up phone call the pair had over the weekend didn’t pan out too well.

As explained back at the beginning of the week, Boebert says Omar demanded a public apology directly and that the first statement "wasn’t good enough."

This in turn led Boebert demanding Omar apologize for her statements of  "anti-American, anti-semitic, anti-police rhetoric."

According to Insider, this episode has spiraled to the point where House Democrats are pushing to censure Rep. Boebert and remove her from committee seats.
