A middle school security officer from the small California town of Selma was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of sexually abusing a female student.

Selena Perez, 26, was subsequently booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, sexual battery, arranging a meeting with a minor, and annoying and harassing a child under the age of 18.

According to ABC30, Perez posted her $75,000 bail and walked out of jail just hours after being admitted. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 24.

"At this time, the police are actively investigating the situation involving the female Campus Security Officer at Abraham Lincoln Middle School," the Selma Unified School District wrote in a statement following Perez's arrest, per KMPH. "The employee in question is no longer on site. Today, we will have our mental health therapists available at the school to provide support for students during this time."

Abraham Lincoln Middle School Principal Katie Carmany also sent a statement out to concerned parents, informing them of what had transpired.

"Today, at approx 12 pm, a female employee was arrested and immediately removed from ALMS for inappropriate interactions with a female student," she wrote. "I sincerely appreciate the swift actions of Selma Police."

Selma Unified School District Superintendent Ed Gomes added that officials are "fully cooperating with law enforcement while they continue to investigate" and will be "providing support to affected students and families."
