The victim of a stabbing in San Francisco has been identified as 43-year-old Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App known across the tech world as "Crazy Bob."
Lee, who had recently moved to Miami, was in San Francisco on a business trip when he was brutally attacked early Tuesday morning in what many have called a "good" area of town.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to reports of a stabbing on the 300 block of Main Street in the city's Rincon Hill neighborhood around 2:35am.
Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from stab wounds and called medics to the scene. He was transported to hospital, and despite the best efforts of all invovled, succumbed to his injuries.
The man was identified as Lee later Tuesday evening by his friends and colleagues. No arrests have been made, nor have police released details about a potential suspect.
Following the news of Lee's passing, tributes poured in across Twitter.
"I just found out my good friend was killed last night while walking him in San Francisco," tweeted former MMA fighter Jake Schields. "He was in the 'good' part of the city and appeared to have been targeted in a random mugging/attack. F*ck San Francisco."
"I've been friends with [Lee] for 15 years," said TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington. "He was one of the best humans I've ever met. I'm so glad we were able to spend time together recently. RIP. I hate what San Francisco has become."
Elon Musk gave his condolences as well, pointing out that many people he knew in the Bay Area had been "severely assaulted."
"Violent crime in SF is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately," he lamented, calling on the city's DA to do more.
Aside from his career in tech, in which he worked for Google, founded or helped start numerous companies, and even got into crypto, Lee has been remembered as an all-around good guy, and an amazing single father to his children.
