Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former president Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, is widely rumored to be considering a congressional run, though her team has denied such speculation.
According to a report by The Daily Mail, political insiders have been circulating rumors of a possible Clinton candidacy. Clinton could run for New York’s 12th Congressional District to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY).
"She’s probably got a shot if she wants it,” one New York insider told the outlet.
Other sources, however, cautioned that the rumors were fueled by “wishful thinking” from Democratic establishment figures concerned about the growing popularity of socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani, who recently won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, has sparked unease within the party’s leadership.
“The impression that I've had is that she's not actually terribly interested in entering the political fray,” a source added.
A spokesperson for Clinton told USA Today on Wednesday that she is “not considering a run.”
Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F Kennedy, has also been mentioned as a potential candidate. Schlossberg told The New York Times that a candidacy was “certainly a possibility” but did not confirm any plans. If he runs, he would be the first Kennedy to seek a congressional seat since Joe Kennedy III left office in Massachusetts.
Clinton had previously been discussed as a possible candidate in 2020 after Representative Nita Lowey stepped down. In 2019, she told The View that she was not interested, noting that “someone has asked me some version of this question for literally as long as I can remember.”
“Maybe,” she said at the time. “But not now.”
