Haverford Professor Guantian Ha has been charged with cyberstalking a colleague and was taken into custody on Tuesday. He is alleged by federal prosecutors of terrorizing a Jewish professor, doxing him, sharing his child's name online, and sending antisemitic slurs and threats. Ha used an anonymous online account, posing as a supporter of MAGA, to go after the man and his family over a period of seven months.

"Get out of my country," Ha, who originally hails from China, wrote. In an antisemitic tirade, he said, "You don't belong here. The Fuhrer is coming, rats." A few days later, he added, "Run. Flee. Leave. Blurring your home on google map and installing a security camera next to your mailbox won't help." Ha had also posted an image of the professor's mailbox.

The indictment reads that "Guantian Ha, with the intent to harass and intimidate Victim 1, used a facility of interstate and foreign commerce, that is, the internet and electronic mail, to engage in a course of conduct that placed Victim 1 in reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury and caused, attempted to cause, and would be reasonably expected to cause substantial emotional distress to Victim 1 and his family." The harassment lasted from October 2025 to May 2026.

Ha is also a member of Faculty for Justice in Palestine and said concerns over antisemitism on campus were "Zionist witch hunts." He has served as an associate professor of religion, studies Islam in China, and has a PhD from Columbia for which he wrote a dissertation called "Religion of the Father: Islam, Gender, and Politics of Ethnicity in Late Socialism."

The family did flee their home, with the professor's wife and child going to stay with relatives over fears that their stalker would attack them. Ha was tracked down after agents were able to link his anonymous social media accounts to IP addresses that revealed Ha, who then admitted to owning the accounts. Ha had been on sabbatical and has now been placed on leave. He's also banned from campus.

US Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania David Metcalf said, "These posts had a devastating, lasting effect on victim 1 and their family."

Haverford president Wendy Raymond shared a letter with the Haverford community, saying "Earlier today, Professor Guangtian Ha was arrested and charged with online harassment and intimidation. I am deeply distressed by these allegations and want to state in the plainest of terms that any form of harassment or discrimination based on identity is unacceptable, antithetical to our values, and has no place at Haverford."

She gave an update on the status of Ha's employment with the school before saying "I am heartbroken and furious at the possibility that an individual within our community would seek to inflict such pain on another. This disturbing news is made even more harmful for many given its proximity to both the Jewish High Holidays and the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks."

Raymond was questioned before the Congressional Committee on Education and Workforce in May 2025 and was asked specifically about Ha by North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx. "President Raymond," Foxx began, "in August 2024, Guangtian Ha, a religious professor at Haverford, wrote on X that, 'The State of Israel must be dismantled, and the society denazified. Zionism in Nazism, it is Fascism, Zionists are racist.'

"Professor Ha also wrote, 'The only way to deal with Zionists is to stop talking to them and refuse to let them waste your time. Liberal Zionists, in particular. And I learned a new term, reluctant Zionist, and I guess there were plenty of reluctant Nazis too, perhaps the majority of them were.' Do you believe there is a distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism?"

Raymond explained that she did "not support those statements at all." A suit was brought by Jewish students against the school in August and was settled. Ha's commentary was featured in that suit as the students, parents, faculty and alumni said that Haverford had allowed discrimination and harassment of Jewish students.
