Clancy attorney claims he didn't attack Catholic holdout juror after calling him 'obstructionist'

During a hearing on Tuesday morning in the Lindsay Clancy case, her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, criticized the prosecution for saying he is attacking the lone holdout juror that resulted in a mistrial being declared earlier in the month.

During arguments on a motion to make public jury notes from the trial, Reddington said, “I am so tired of hearing ‘persecution’, ‘attacking,’ [that] I am doing all these terrible things to this juror. I filed one motion and said nothing. Every comment I have made has been in reaction to people from Donald Trump on down to Nancy Mace, down to Cruz—not the DA, but the politician—calling for her execution. I have responded to these outlandish comments.”

Reddington filed a motion earlier in September urging Judge William Sullivan to investigate the holdout juror, who has been identified as Michael Desronvil. Desronvil was the holdout juror who believed Clancy was guilty, while the remaining 11 jurors wanted to find her not guilty by reason of insanity.

In the motion, Reddington demanded that officials hand over to the defense the confidential juror questionnaire for "Juror Doe," as well as the juror’s record from the statewide domestic violence registry and records related to phone usage during deliberations, in addition to other documents pertaining to the juror.

During the trial, Reddington had revealed that the holdout juror was a male, shrinking the pool of possible identities from 12 to the three men who had sat on it. Desronvil has since been revealed to be a Catholic Republican from a Haitian immigrant family.

Reddington has made a number of comments regarding Desronvil in the wake of the mistrial, including recently calling him an “obstructionist juror.” An attorney representing Desronvil, Edward Paltzik, said regarding the comment, “that is one of the most shocking things I’ve ever heard,” adding, “it has no place in the law, and it’s the exact reason why he needs to be disciplined.” Paltzik said he intends to file a bar complaint against Reddington.
