The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that a convicted child molester has been found dead in his cell.
Deandre Austin, aged 46 years, was an inmate at Mule Creek State Prison. Authorities responded to the emergency call on Wednesday, and found Austin’s body in his cell. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WSVN, the death is being treated as a homicide.
Rodney Jordan, who was the cellmate of Austin, has been placed in segregated housing pending completion of a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Austin’s death.
Austin was convicted of life in prison for various charges. These include oral copulation, sodomy and penetration with a foreign object with a victim under 14 years of age, as well as rape, lewd and lascivious conduct and the continued abuse of a child under 14 years of age.
