Texas Senator John Cornyn has voiced support for passing the SAVE Act with the talking filibuster after he expressed some skepticism about passing the SAVE Act with the strategy just last week. The support from Cornyn also comes after President Donald Trump said he wants to see the law passed before making an endorsement for Cornyn or his opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, in the GOP primary for Senate in Texas. The primary entered a runoff election on Tuesday.

"Contrary to fake news in the twitterverse: I have supported the Save America Act from day one. I will happily support the 'talking filibuster' if that’s what it takes to pass this into law," Cornyn said in a post to X.

The move came after it was reported by NBC News that he said "there are a lot of questions" about whether passing the SAVE Act by forcing a talking filibuster is "feasible."

“My understanding is it would require 51 votes to table amendments. So No. 1, you need 51 senators on the floor, and you need all of them willing to vote to table the amendment. That obviously can be problematic from a number of standpoints," Cornyn said at the time.

It was rumored that Trump was going to endorse Cornyn, which led Paxton to post this past week, "The Save America Act is the most important bill the U.S. Senate could ever pass, and I'm committed to helping President Trump get it done. I would consider dropping out of this race if Senate Leadership agrees to lift the filibuster and passes the SAVE America Act."

In an apparent response, Trump signaled to reporters that he wants to see the SAVE Act passed before he makes an endorsement in the Texas Senate race. Citing the NBC News article, Paxton responded to Cornyn's call to pass the SAVE Act on Saturday, saying, "It really is amazing how the need for survival can change someone. Just LAST WEEK, flip-flop Cornyn was attacking the idea of the talking filibuster—saying it wasn't "feasible." Maybe he'll finally come out for abolishing the filibuster to pass the Save America Act and call out McConnell for stopping the bill. We'll see!"
