During high threats of violence throughout the country in response to the outcome of the Derek Chauvin trial, DC Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser stripped hundreds of DC National Guardsmen of their firearms after sending a directive to the secretary of the army requesting for them to be unarmed.

The acting secretary of the army approved Mayor Bowser's directive which forbade troops from carrying weapons to defend themselves while placing their trust in DC Metropolitan Police instead, Fox News reported.

National Guardsmen have been protecting the District of Columbia since the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol.

According to Fox News, "Bowser’s office sent a letter to Maj. Gen. William Walker of the D.C. National Guard earlier this month, requesting troops be "activated" to assist the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department."

Earlier this month, the Bowser administration told Walker that DC National Guardsmen will focus their efforts on crowd management and "No DCNG personnel will be armed or engaged in any law enforcement activity during this activation," Fox News reported.
