On Wednesday night, members of the progressive "Squad" joined a protest of anti-Israel activists outside the Democratic National Convention, moments after the parents of one of the American hostages addressed the convention. These were Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, New York's Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Summer Lee of Pennsylvania.

The sit-in outside Chicago’s United Center was organized by a group of 36 uncommitted delegates to the DNC. These are delegates who refused to vote for President Joe Biden in the primary due to the Biden-Harris administration's position on Israel. They have now demanded that a Palestinian be permitted to speak on stage at the DNC.

The protest followed an address to the convention by Rachel Goldberg-Polin and Jon Polin, parents of 23-year-old Hersh Goldberg-Polin, one of the eight Americans who was taken hostage by Palestinian terrorists from the Nova Music Festival on Oct. 7, 2023. Hirsch’s parents wore strips of masking tape over their hearts with the number 320 written on it to signify the number of days their son has been held by Hamas in Gaza.

Rachel said Hersh's left forearm was blown off before he was loaded onto a pickup truck during the terrorist attack and "stolen from his life, and me and John, into Gaza."

Jon added, "This is a political convention. But needing our son and all the hostages home is not a political issue. It is a humanitarian issue." The speech was mostly well received by the convention and was met with standing ovations.

Immediately following the powerful address by the grief-stricken parents, progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez posted on X, “Just as we must honor the humanity of hostages, so too must we center the humanity of the 40,000 Palestinians killed under Israeli bombardment,” using Hamas’ casualty count which has been questioned by US intelligence and the United Nations.

She added, “To deny that story is to participate in the dehumanization of Palestinians. The @DNC must change course and affirm our shared humanity.” AOC later called one of the leaders of the uncommitted delegates, Abbas Alawieh, via video chat to address the protestors who have refused to leave until their demand for a Palestinian to address the convention is met. Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were difficult to understand so Alawieh paraphrased her remarks, noting that at one point he added how important it was to beat “Donald Trump and his white supremacist buddies and make sure they never get close to the Oval Office ever again.”

Antisemitic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) joined the sit-in in person and embraced Alawieh, who was draped in a Palestinian scarf with the same pattern popularized by mass murderer Yasser Arafat, the former head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, a recognized terrorist group.

Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) also joined the sit-in and addressed the protestors while wearing a similar scarf to Alawieh. As she spoke to the protesting delegates, she received word that the DNC offered the group a meeting with four staffers, but noted that discussions would not include having a Palestinian-American speak from the stage.

In response, Alawieh said, “No is not an acceptable response,” and stated the group would not leave. The uncommitted delegates issued a demand that a Palestinian be allowed to address the convention, just as the family of an Israeli hostage has done. Palestinian terrorists massacred 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023, and took over 200 hostages. The bodies of six of those were recently recovered by the IDF. The uncommitted delegates have given a warning to Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic party that they may sit out the November election if she fails to call for an arms embargo against the Jewish state and demand an immediate ceasefire in Israel’s war against Palestinian terrorists.

The group has also promised disruptions inside the convention hall during the convention and has since followed through on the threat. The group said they would not end the sit in until they receive a call from Vice President Kamala Harris agreeing to their demands.
