DHS Sec. Markwayne Mullin says Ilhan Omar married her brother, investigation could uncover 'illegal activity'

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin suggested Thursday that an investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar could uncover “illegal activity” as the congresswoman continues to face allegations that she married her brother in a fraudulent immigration scheme.

Mullin made the comments while speaking with podcaster Benny Johnson about the ongoing investigation into Omar, who was born in Somalia. Mullin said bluntly that, “We know that she married her brother to try to bring him to the United States.”

“We know he lives now in London,” Mullin said. “There may be more to this, the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with.”

Mullin did not provide specific evidence to support the claim. However, the secretary argued that the investigation into Omar is not a political one, and if the federal government moves forward with the case, it is because of legitimate reasons. He also suggested Omar could be deported.

“Here’s what I want to make sure we do: if we actually move a case forward, it’s not a political case, it’s an actual case, because they did things wrong,” Mullin added. “If you lied about certain things about your application, there’s no expiration to that. If we can prove it – that you shouldn’t have been here in the first place – we’ll deport you.”

Omar obtained her US citizenship in 2000 at the age of 17. She has had three former husbands and has repeatedly denied allegations that one of them, second husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, is her brother.

Earlier this year, Omar described the allegations as “a ridiculous lie and desperate attempt to distract from the pedophile protection party’s unpopular war of choice, increasing gas prices, and rapidly dropping polling numbers.”
