Disney's live-action remake of Snow White starring Rachel Zegler, which has been hit by conservatives as a "woke" version of the original movie, is projected to have one of the worst launches from Disney in recent years. Some reports have shown theatres nearly empty as the film has been mired in controversy.

Leading up to its initial release, the movie got an initial score of 47 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and Thursday previews only brought in $3.5 million. The film is projected to earn around $45 million on its opening weekend, according to the Daily Mail. The Dumbo remake, which Disney launched in 2019, only made $45 million on its opening weekend. The Dumbo remake, however, only cost $170 million in expenses. Snow White, on the other hand, cost around $250 million to put together.

Some X users over the opening weekend posted videos of empty theatres and low ticket sales in their respective areas. User Dr. Sydney Watson wrote in a caption with a video on Friday, "My Snow White screening lookin' a little empty."

Another user posted a screenshot of ticket sales in his area, which showed relatively low numbers. "Theaters where I am are mostly empty for this film," the user wrote.

Kangmin Lee posted a screenshot of ticket sales in his area and wrote, "Opening Friday night for Disney’s Snow White in IMAX. Only ONE person bought tickets for tonight. Yeah this movie's gonna flop."

Disney's release of the film has been mired in controversy, as star actor, Zegler, has made multiple comments stumping for left-wing agenda items and has somewhat alienated conservatives. When President Donald Trump won the 2024 election, Zegler took to Instagram where she wrote out her frustrations with the president and with America for electing him.

"I find myself speechless in the midst of this. another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world i do not want to live in,” (sic) she wrote at the time and then deleted the Instagram story.

“I shouldn’t be this shocked. but i am. i am heartbroken for my friends who awoke [in] fear this morning. and i am here with you. to cry, to yell, to hug. to wax poetic on how the left continues to fail us in forging a new path forward. this loss should not have been. and it certainly should not have been by so many votes," she added. (sic)

She has also gotten backlash from conservatives over being critical of the original Snow White film, saying that the 1937 movie was "extremely dated" surrounding the “ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world.”

The movie itself was also slammed by critics, with the Daily Mail's Brian Viner writing that it was a "painfully muddle-headed affair."

"Disney's contorted attempts not to offend anyone have somehow managed to offend everyone," the critic added.

The Times of London also slammed the remake, writing, "Believe the anti-hype. It’s that bad. It represents a new low for cultural desecration and for a venerable 102-year-old entertainment company that now looks at its source material with a pinched nose of disgust."

Hey Disney, use a bigger shovel and keep digging that hold deeper.
