WATCH: Doug Ford says vaccine delays 'incredibly disappointing'

Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his frustration with the delays in coronavirus vaccine shipments to Canada.

"I'll be honest, the shipment delays with the Pfizer vaccine have been incredibly disappointing," Ford said. "And to be told on Friday that we would receive 18,200 less doses of the Moderna vaccine, I can't stress how frustrating that is."

"But we continue to press ahead and make steady progress. Our plan to accelerate the vaccination of Ontario's most vulnerable population is underway," Ford claimed. "We are actively giving out first doses to residents of long-term care, high-risk retirement homes, and First Nations' elder care homes with an updated goal for completion of February 10."

Canada began the vaccine rollout early, having been ahead in vaccinations per capita of most other nations at the beginning of 2020. Canada has since begun to lag behind other countries, with less than three percent of the population having received a first dose of the vaccine.

The federal government has been heavily criticized for its failure to deliver the vaccine to Canadians, which has been compounded by manufacturing problems at vaccine development facilities in Europe. Meanwhile, in the neighbouring United States, nearly ten percent of the population has already received at least one dose of the vaccine.

The vaccine rollout has been particularly difficult for Ontario, which has vaccinated less than two percent of the province's total population.
