"We can actually start to grab hold of the ship of state and steer it our direction, but it's going to be a violent process."
Members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are calling for major political change within the Democratic Party and the US, with some calling for a “violent” revolution.
A compilation of footage posted by the Canary Mission on X showed comments from DSA members, candidates endorsed by the organization, and far-left commentators discussing the future of the Democratic Party. Among those featured was DSA activist and streamer Michael Beyer, who said during a panel discussion that "The Democratic Party establishment that we have has to be ripped out.”
“We can actually start to grab hold of the ship of state and steer it our direction, but it's going to be a violent process,” Beyer added.
The DSA has advocated for significant changes within the Democratic Party as it seeks to move the party toward policies aligned with democratic socialism. Another clip featured Oliver Larkin, a DSA candidate for Congress in Florida, who said that “this Democratic Party needs to change.” Larkin also said he was “more than glad” to appear on the livestream of far-left commentator Hasan Piker, who has a history of advocating for political violence.
“As Democrats, we need to go into these spaces,” Larkin said.
The DSA has gained increased prominence within the Democratic Party following a series of electoral victories by candidates backed by the organization, particularly the election of DSA-backed candidate Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City. A number of DSA-backed candidates have since won in a number of primary elections, particularly in Democratic-led cities.
The organization supports a range of radical beliefs that would dramatically change the landscape of the US. Among its stated positions are abolishing the US Senate, abolishing ICE, abolishing borders entirely, abolishing prisons, and defunding the Pentagon, among others.
“The establishment Democrats should be worried about the voters and about what the voters think and about what the constituency thinks, and … right now they have not been delivering, and our candidates are and have been, and it’s resonating with voters,” DSA national co-chair Megan Romer previously told Fox News.
“I also have been told a lot of times by Democrats, don’t vote third party. It’s wasting your vote,” she added. “So, we run on the Democratic ballot line where it makes sense. We run independents sometimes where that is a viable possibility, but it’s a ballot line. And what matters is what the voters think. And the voters are overwhelmingly choosing our candidates.”
