Grace Life Church in Edmonton went against an order to close issued in January of 2021 by authorities in order to hold another church service on Good Friday.
Parishioners passed RCMP cruisers in their cars as they filled up the parking lot in order to attend the 11am church service on what many Christians consider to be the holiest day of the year.
According to the Edmonton Journal, health officials were also present, and, immediately after the service, Alberta Health Services (AHS) stated the following:
"They noted what appeared to be breaches of the current Chief Medical Officer of Health’s (CMOH) restrictions related to capacity, physical distancing, and masking. AHS continues to consider further enforcement options."
"We are there to support Alberta Health Services as they continue their dealings with the church and the RCMP is committed to assist Alberta Health Services who are leading the response," Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the RCMP was quoted as saying.
Grace Life's Pastor James Coates has been engaged personally in ongoing legal battles with the province of Alberta since the beginning of the year 2021. He was jailed on Mar. 5 but released on Mar. 22, and is still facing an upcoming trail, which is to take place in the first days of May 2021.
