“I decided to take up gardening. I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what’s been going on … Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business," DeGeneres said.
Ellen DeGeneres and spouse Portia de Rossi have made a home for themselves in a bucolic enclave of England as they wait for their Montecito estate to sell and promise never again to set foot in the United States, according to TheWrap, which cited a source close to DeGeneres. The couple says the victory of President-elect Donald Trump was the impetus for the move.
If politics hasn’t gone her way, neither has the entertainment industry, as DeGeneres has remarked that she was “kicked out of show business” after stories emerged about how working on her syndicated “Ellen” show was like going through employment hell,
per staffers. The comedian is currently living in Cotswolds in the southern UK and will be listing her primary California residence with Riskin Partners, according to TheWrap.
DeGeneres and de Rossi had been living at the large estate since 2019. They have other homes in Southern California and conceivably the pair will eventually sell these too. The talk show host has a stand-up comedy routine that can be seen on Netflix, called “For Your Approval.” It gave her an opportunity to relate to fans who were wondering what DeGeneres has been up to since leaving cable TV. Apparently, her life revolves around enjoying the financial dividends of her career but being no longer is engaged in it.
“I decided to take up gardening,” DeGeneres told TheWrap. “I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what’s been going on … Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business … Yeah, the ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.” The comedian said maybe she should have had a different tag line before the credits ran at the conclusion of her once popular show.
“Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f*ck yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind,” DeGeneres quipped.
