"Prosecute Tim Walz," Musk said in a post sharing Shirley's reporting.
Shirley said that he and his team were able to identify "over $110,000,000 in one day" of fraud in Minnesota by going around to various organizations claiming to be child care centers, autism support centers, and other organizations eligible to receive government funding. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Rep. Ilhan Omar, as well as state AG Keith Ellison have all come to the defense of the immigrant community as more allegations of fraud have surfaced.
Members of the Somali community in Minnesota have been organizing different businesses that are able to claim government assistance, but many of them, as shown in Shirley’s reporting, to not appear to provide any services at all. At multiple locations for childcare centers shown by Shirley, there were no children in the middle of the day during the week.
The report comes as there has been massive evidence of other fraud taking place within the Somali community in Minnesota. As of November, 78 defendants have been charged in connection to fraud committed by the group “Feeding Our Future” out of Minnesota, many of them Somali Americans.
Trump has called Minnesota under Tim Walz a “hub of fraudulent money laundering activity,” because of the reports on fraud, and announced in November that he was terminating “effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota.”
