"I thought the CIA liked being the closet, lol."
On Thursday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk took a shot at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as they and other government agencies posted on the platform to celebrate "Pride Month."
Referencing the secretive nature of the agency, Musk wrote, "I thought the CIA liked being the closet, lol."
The CIA said that their theme for Pride is "WELCO-ME," an acronym that stands for Wellness, Equity, LGBTQ+, Community, Openness, and Me!
"Pride Month is an occasion for all of us at the Agency to pay tribute to the rich history, community, and mission contributions of our LGBTQ+ officers," the post concluded.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) joined the CIA in posts to commemorate "Pride Month."
"Recognizing the lived experiences of our LGBTQ+ #DHSWorkforce is part of DHS’s commitment to inclusion and representation," The post reads. It goes on to recognize one of their Slava who "has been with DHS for almost four years, and previously spent two decades working with organizations like @OSCE, @amnesty, @humanrights1st, @ILGAEurope, and @ILGAWORLD to promote and advance the human rights of LGBTQ+ people worldwide."
HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a video, "We honor and celebrate the many ways that our family, friends, neighbors, and fellow Americans LGBTQI+ contribute to the health and well-being of our great nation."
"In light of alarming discriminatory state laws," assistant secretary, administration for Children January Contreras said in the video. " Over the past year of targeting transgender children. We reaffirm our commitment to promoting the rights of LGBTQ+ people of all ages."
Melanie Fontes Rainer, Director of the Office for Civil Rights at the HHS reiterated this message in the video. "We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQI plus community as their basic human rights are under attack by a constant threat of laws pending around the country," She said.
Secretary Becerra's post read, "We firmly believe that we have not made progress unless we all make progress."
Wednesday the Air Force kicked things off when they tweeted an image of an Airman saluting the LGBTQI+ flag. The post read, "June is Pride Month! The Department of the Air Force proudly recognizes and celebrates generations of LGBTQI+ service members and their contributions to our Air Force & Space Force."
The Airforce turned off comments after they received a litany of comments criticizing the post which seemed to put the rainbow flag on par with the American flag.
