According to Sportsnet 650 host Dan Riccio, the realm of punishment could void the remainder of Kane's seven-year, $49 million contract.

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane finds himself in yet another controversy. According to an anonymous source speaking to the Associated Press, Kane is under investigation for claims he recently used a fake COVID vaccine card.

Sportsnet hinted the player violated COVID protocols at the end of September, though they provided no details to confirm the claims. Sources speaking to Front Office Sports also claimed the allegations were true.

The COVID-19 protocols outlined by the NHL for the 2021-2022 season said, "lack of compliance will result in significant Club and individual sanctions, including potential forfeiture of games, fines and reimbursements of expenses, loss of draft choices, and/or ineligibility for participation in training activities."

According to Sportsnet 650 host Dan Riccio, the realm of punishment could void the remainder of Kane's seven-year, $49 million contract.

"They've made the rules so strict that essentially only the most staunch of anti-vax players are the ones that are not yet vaccinated," said Riccio. "As far as we know, it's only a handful around the league. They are at about 99 percent vaccination amongst its players."

He continued: "The league is very clear on this. They don't want to have any COVID situations pop up."

This isn't the first time Kane made headlines. Back in August, his pregnant wife accused him of betting against himself in a gambling scheme. Anne Kane described her husband as a "gambling addict" in posts on social media.

In an Instagram post, she claimed her husband abandoned her with their young child and a past-due mortgage to go party in Europe. "So you leave July 8th. You do not call or text at all for 7 days. Then you inform me you are going to Europe for a vacation must be nice, but at the same time tell me our house is being taken by the bank."

The NHL investigation into the matter cleared his name, despite lingering inquiries into potential abuse.

Kane, a fervent supporter of postponing games in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, is also a co-founder for the "Hockey Diversity Alliance," which advocates for BIPOC causes within the NHL.
