Former aide Stephen Miller to be tapped for Trump admin

President-elect Donald Trump is assembling his White House staff and Cabinet appointments after his election win last week and he's set to name Stephen Miller, founder of America First Legal, as part of his border and immigration team. He'll be deputy chief for policy. 

"This is another fantastic pick by the president. Congrats Stephen," JD Vance posted.

So far, Trump has chosen Susie Wiles as his Chief of Staff, Tom Homan for border security and immigration, and NY Rep. Elise Stefanik as US Ambassador to the UN.

Not everyone is happy with Miller's appointment.

Miller served as a Senior Advisor to Trump during the entirety of his first term and prior to that had served as a senior aide to lawmakers and committees in the United States Congress. His firm, America First Legal, was founded as an antidote to the leftist ACLU and has been battling leftist policy on trans and other issues in the courts.

While working with Trump during Trump's first White House term, Miller was "the architect of Trump's immigration plan," per The Daily Mail. Trump ran on a promise to secure the border during his successful 2016 bid for the presidency and re-upped that during his 2024 run. Polling indicates that Americans are interested in securing the border and sending home millions of people who crossed illegally into the US during the Biden-Harris administration.

Many of those who crossed surrendered at the border, claimed to be asylum seekers, were given court dates years into the future to argue for that claim, as well as free cell phones, and were given passage into the interior of the US. For those who landed in sanctuary cities, they were then provided food and shelter and given the opportunity to apply for work authorization. Over 2 million entered each year under this policy.
