The outlet said these were "queer men who could order a martini, shaken not stirred, with the suave style Bond fans demand of this historic member of the Majesty's Secret Service."
The article was titled, "10 trans & nonbinary starts who'd perfectly play James Bond," and was in response to a report from Variety that auditions for the next 007 have begun. The pitch from the outlet comes as there has been backlash over rumors that trans-identified female Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page, may be cast as Achilles of Troy in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, "The Odyssey."
Page was also one of the recommendations named by Out as a possible 007 actor. Others included in the list were Brian Michael Smith, Leo Shang, Ian Alexander, Blu del Barrio, Theo Germaine, Elloit Fletcher, Zoe Terakes, Chella Man, and Laith Ashely.
The rumors of Page's casting in the "Odyssey" film sparked a number of satire posts, including one where Page replaced Brad Pitt as Achilles in the movie "Troy."
Another post replaced Sylvester Stallone with Page in the movie "Rocky IV," where the character Rocky Balboa is facing off against Soviet boxer Ivan Drago.
There were a number of other movie renditions that people made in an attempt to poke fun at the rumored decision to have Page be cast as Achilles. The casting decision, however, has not been confirmed.
Conservative commentator and activist Robby Starbuck said, "If Elliot Page is playing Achilles, this will be the biggest bomb of Christopher Nolan’s career. It’ll be meme’d to death before it ever comes out. You can’t go from Brad Pitt as Achilles to a confused woman and expect an audience to take it seriously."
43-year-old Nyong'o, a black woman, will also be playing Helen of Troy in the movie, which sparked backlash. Helen of Troy is the most beautiful woman in Greek mythology.
Elon Musk commented, "Chris Nolan desecrated the Odyssey so that he would be eligible for an Academy Award," as many were saying that Nolan would be race-swapping Helen of Troy's character.
Several of the actors in the line-up from Out have played as trans or nonbinary characters in movies. Alexander, the outlet, said, "played an out trans alien, so why couldn't Alexander step up to shoot bad guys as the next Bond?"
The outlet said that the list is a line-up of "queer men who could order a martini, shaken not stirred, with the suave style Bond fans demand of this historic member of the Majesty's Secret Service."
Amazon MGM Studios has started the auditioning process for actors to play the role and has been doing so for the past few weeks. The studio has enlisted Nina Gold to find the next man who will replace Daniel Craig.
“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement to reporters. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
