President Donald Trump was accompanied by an armor-plated golf buggy while playing a round of golf during his recent visit to Scotland, marking the latest upgrade in security measures that now surround him following past assassination attempts.
The heavily reinforced vehicle was spotted trailing the president across the course, part of a broader Secret Service operation that included military trucks, road checkpoints, and sniper teams positioned around the area. The vehicle is believed to be designed to shield the president in the event of another attack while he is on a golf course.
Though Trump chose to drive a standard-looking golf cart during play, the armored buggy followed closely behind. Security experts told The Telegraph the vehicle bore all the “tell-tale signs” of a reinforced vehicle similar in function to “The Beast,” the armored limousine used by US presidents during official travel.
Gary Relf, director of Armoured Car Services, said the buggy’s front windscreen appeared to be made of bullet-resistant glass.
“Just looking at the front windscreen, that looks armored. I’m sitting in an armored vehicle now. We build armored vehicles. That does look armored to me,” he told the outlet.
Relf noted the black branding on the windscreen as a common feature of “auto-armor” design.
“When we armor a vehicle, we take every kind of technical element out, the roof, the seats, the floor, the carpet, and then we put the armoring in, and we replace it all afterwards, so you might never know,” he explained. “But the thing that gives it away is the front windscreen.”
The enhanced precautions come roughly a year after Trump survived the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, with another failed attempt taking place at a golf course just ten months ago.
A spokesperson for the US Secret Service declined to comment on the specific nature of the vehicle or other protective tactics, stating only, “The US Secret Service employs a variety of tools and resources to safeguard our protectees. In order to maintain operational security, the Secret Service does not discuss the specific means and methods used to conduct our protective operations.”
