John Hennessy is the Executive Chairman of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. He, along with other tech executives have just endorsed Joe Biden for President, which is unconventionally for someone in his position.
In a letter signed by Hennessy as well as another dozen computing experts, immigration is cited as the reason for endorsing Biden. This is due to the fact that President Trump has restricted work visas for foreign workers interested in working in the U.S Tech center.
Google engineer David Patterson is also listed among those endorsing Biden. According to an interview with the New York Times, Patterson states, "The most brilliant people in the world want to come here and be grad students, but now they are being discouraged from coming here, and many are going elsewhere."
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris listen to experts before setting public policy, essential when science and technology may help with many problems facing our nation today,” the letter continued.
