Governor Ron DeSantis announced Friday that Florida is sending 50 state law enforcement officers to Texas to aid in enforcing the United States-Mexico border, according to the Miami Herald.

The announcement builds on a promise made by the governor last week. "Governors Abbott and Ducey recently sent out a call for help to every state in the nation, needing additional law enforcement manpower and other resources to aid with border security. I'm proud to announce today that the state of Florida is answering the call. Florida has your back," DeSantis announced on June 16.

Specifics regarding what the mission would be were not provided. "We are unable to share mission specifics at this time to protect the security of the missions they are working," said DeSantis spokeswoman Katie Strickland. DeSantis said of the source of funding: "That is still a point of discussion. Typically, if someone would help us, you know, we would pick up some of their funding and so that is how we would hope that it goes. But we do not anticipate getting any federal funds."

Florida will be sending 50 state personnel from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Highway Patrol, according to Strickland.
